Secrets of the Egyptian Mummies Revealed

The Ancient Egyptians treated death with great reverence and had a strong belief in an afterlife. Their pharaohs were very carefully embalmed and wrapped in cloth before being placed in a sarcophagus before being carried to their last resting place in their tombs.

The tombs had been prepared over many years with everything that the pharaoh would need to see him safely through the underworld and into the afterlife. The walls of the tombs were painted with scenes of his life, with food and drink, music and friends and most importantly instructions as to what he had to do at every step of the journey. Personal items were also put into his tomb in the form of treasure, furniture, clothing etc.

These tombs were supposed to be sealed for all eternity but sadly that was not the case. The tombs were plundered in antiquity of their treasure. Thankfully the Mummies were usually left in their sarcophagus in the tombs. Those Mummies are now preserved in museums in Egypt and around the world and scientists are now unravelling the secrets of the Mummies by examining them and testing their DNA.
